THE OPEN MEDIA COMPETITION

The competition addresses the question: What does Chinatown mean in the year 2046?
The competition invites global creators to contribute works across film, photography, illustration, graphics, sound, words, AI, and emerging media.
Selected works will be preserved within the Vublox Eastend Chinatown 2046 Timeline, forming a permanent digital archive accessible to the public, partners, and cultural institutions.
All works must respond to the theme ‘Show us your Chinatown, 2046’, interpreting future imaginaries, cultural hybridity, and Eastern Futurism.

Competition Brief

Eastend Chinatown 2046 invites creators to submit original work exploring the future of Chinese and East Asian identity in East London.

The competition is open to all mediums: short film, photography, illustration, animation, sound, mixed media, and AI-generated work.

Theme: Eastend Chinatown 2046; a future imagined through culture, community, and lived experience. What we’re looking for: Work that reflects identity, belonging, hybridity, and the evolving presence of Chinese and East Asian communities. Submissions can be documentary, fictional, experimental, or conceptual.

Who can enter: Anyone. All backgrounds, all levels, all mediums.

Competition opens: 17 September, 2026
Finalists announced: December, 2026
Winners revealed at the Eastend Chinatown 2046 Awards event (TBC)

Rights: Creators retain full ownership. Selected works grant ToandPartners Limited a non‑exclusive licence for exhibition and archival use.

Concept: Originality, storytelling, and relevance to the brief.
Craft: Technical execution and the skilful use of creative tools.
Impact: The work's ability to inspire, move, or provoke thought.

Organized by ToandPartners Limited01 — PurposeEastend Chinatown 2046 is a cultural futures programme exploring diasporic identity, community memory, and speculative imagination. The Competition invites creators to contribute works across any medium, including AI‑generated or AI‑assisted forms. Selected works will be added to the Vublox Eastend Chinatown 2046 Timeline.02 — Eligibility

Open to individuals aged 18+ worldwide.
Collective entries permitted with one representative.
Employees or contractors of ToandPartners Limited may not enter.

03 — ThemeAll works must respond to the theme Eastend Chinatown 2046, interpreting future imaginaries, cultural hybridity, and Eastern Futurism.04 — Accepted Mediums

Incomplete or inaccessible submissions may be disqualified.06 — Intellectual PropertyParticipants must hold full rights to all submitted materials. Third‑party content must not infringe any rights. Participants grant ToandPartners Limited a non‑exclusive, royalty‑free, worldwide licence to exhibit, publish, and archive the work, including inclusion in the Vublox Eastend Chinatown 2046 Timeline. Participants retain full ownership.07 — AI ToolsParticipants must comply with licensing terms of all AI tools used. Tools prohibiting public or commercial use may not be used. All AI tools must be disclosed.08 — JudgingWorks will be assessed on originality, cultural depth, technical execution, and contribution to the Eastend Chinatown 2046 narrative. Decisions are final.09 — AwardsAward categories will be announced publicly. Selected works will be added to the Vublox Eastend Chinatown 2046 Timeline. Prizes are non‑transferable and only collectable or to be used in London, United Kingdom.10 — PublicityParticipants consent to the use of their name, likeness, and submitted materials for promotional purposes related to Eastend Chinatown 2046.11 — Content StandardsWorks must not contain hate speech, unlawful content, explicit sexual material, or incitement of harm. Works misrepresenting or exploiting cultural identity may be disqualified.12 — Data ProtectionPersonal data will be processed in accordance with UK data protection laws and used solely for Competition administration and related promotional activities.13 — LiabilityToandPartners Limited is not responsible for technical failures or issues arising from third‑party tools. Participants indemnify the Organizer against claims arising from infringement or unlawful content.
